For those new to triathlon, this shorter distance is a perfect introduction to the sport!
Sprint
Swim 750m | Cycle 20km | Run 5km
The Sprint distance is perfect for having fun and developing your strength and fitness.
Olympic
Swim 1500m | Cycle 40km | Run 10km
the classic olympic – the real deal. The Olympic course along the stunning coastline of Byron Bay includes an ocean swim, a lapped cycle course to Suffolk Park, and a lapped run past the Beach Hotel and your adoring fans at the Surf Club.

Olympic: Swim 1500m | Cycle 40km | Run 10km
Sprint: Swim 750m | Cycle 20km | Run 5km
Tempta: Swim 300m | Cycle 10km | Run 3km
Relay Teams – Bring together your squad and challenge your specialty. One athlete completes each leg of the triathlon, passing the timing chip to the next athlete in transition. Create your team with any combination of men or women. Teams can be of two or three members.
All In Teams – Train together, race together. Grab three mates, and each challenge all three legs of a full triathlon. Each team will receive their individual time and cumulative team time. Create your team with any combination of men or women. Teams must be of three members.
Kids
Swim 100m | Cycle 3km | Run 400m
For those young ones who are keen to have a go. TRI it for fun, leave as a legend! A non-competitive introduction to triathlon for children aged 7 to 12 years.
The Byron Bay Triathlon is proudly run as a not-for-profit event, hosted by the Byron Tri Club and Byron Bay Cycle Club alongside NXsports.
Each year local community organisations volunteer their time to assist with the event in exchange for a community grant, valued up to $1100. Previous groups have included the Byron Bay Scouts, Bangalow Men’s Shed, Byron Bay AFL Club, Rainbow Dragon Boaters and Byron Youth Service.
