The Channon Market

On the second Sunday of each month, the little village known as the Channon comes alive with the amazing Channon markets. The Channon is located about a 45-minute drive west of Byron Bay, nestled in the hills near Lismore. The Channon markets provide the perfect excuse to take a day outing to the country, and the scenery will not disappoint. The Channon markets were established in 1976 with a strong make it, bake it, grow it ethos.

While the Channon market has outgrown its beginnings, its ethos has remained unchanged. Now, the Channon markets have a reputation as one of Australia’s most vibrant markets. The markets are located on the local sports oval, Coronation Park, and the stalls are set up as two concentric circles. In the center of the market stalls, there is often some live music or performances by local talent. The location of the Channon market makes it truly spectacular.

Beyond the market, the stall is an incredible panoramic view of the hinterland. Over 250 stalls attend the Channon markets each month. These provide a great variety of products and produce, including arts and crafts, second-hand bric-a-brac, jewelry, clothing, things for the kids, therapeutic services, and fresh produce. Delicious food and coffee stalls are also available, giving market-goers a chance to take in the scenery and enjoy the entertainment.

To get to the Channon markets, exit at the Bangalow-Lismore exit and follow the signs toward the Channon. There is parking available for $2 per car in the paddock beside Coronation Park. All proceeds go to local charities.
