Save Wallum Poetry Slam

The return of the Save Wallum Poetry Slam!

Following the success of its inaugural event, the Save Wallum Poetry Slam returns, bringing an electrifying night of spoken word performance!

This year’s feature poet, Kathleen Halley Angus, promises a thought-provoking and unflinching exploration of art’s role in untangling the deceptions of our times — and inspiring hope for the Earth. Guiding audiences through the evening will be the dynamic duo of MCs, Nell Schofield and Simone O’Brien, two seasoned performers, broadcasters and activists who bring wit, energy and heart to the stage.

Feature Poet — Kathleen Halley Angus
Kathleen Halley Angus is still trying to find her way back from the outer edges of the solar system, where she mysteriously landed seven years ago. Along the way she built a house in a truck just so she’d have somewhere to avoid writing poetry — which, ironically, is her greatest love. Equal parts dreamer and truth-teller, Kathleen somehow remains wildly optimistic about life on Earth, despite all evidence to the contrary.

Nell Schofield — MC
Nell has lived a few lives already — actor, author, broadcaster, activist, producer, and now President of BayFM 99.9, where she co-hosts Roadtrip and produces This Week In Cyberspace. She co-created Strictly Ballroom at NIDA, worked in TV and radio with ABC, CNN and Showtime, and even advised the Lord Mayor of Sydney on climate policy. Expect wit, wisdom and a touch of rebellion when she’s on stage.

Simone O’Brien — MC
Simone O’Brien has literally been around the traps — thanks to five brothers and a high pain threshold, she ran away to join the circus (well… almost). After years on the trapeze, she now channels her energy as co-founder of the post-menopausal, post-post punk band Mutton, answering only to “The Gutless Wonder” on stage and “Dim Sim” on BayFM 99.9. Equal parts rock star, raconteur and mischief-maker, Simone brings grit, humour and big heart to every performance. She knows how to grab a crowd’s attention — because frankly, she needs it — and she’ll have you laughing and thinking in equal measure.
