The Arakwal BOBBAC, Flickerfest & iQ Inc are thrilled to present their annual evening of inspiring First Nations storytelling celebrating NAIDOC Week 2025 and this year’s theme ‘The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy’.
This year’s Indigenous Spotlight programme of Flickerfest favourites is curated from the recent Flickerfest Academy® qualifying Australian competition and will take you on a special journey with some incredibly strong and powerful stories, whose compelling voices will inspire, move and delight.
The filmmakers and film creatives featuring in the 18thArakwal NAIDOC week screening are some of the leading lights in indigenous film today, blazing brightly on Australian screens and stage.
The programme showcases eight remarkable short films, including the charming The Fix-It-Man And Fix-It-Wooman, the Flickerfest 2025 award-winning animated short created by the talented artists from the Yarrenyty Arltere Town Camp, set against the vibrant backdrop of Alice Springs. Celebrating Northern Territory talent, Hydraulic, directed by Nicole Hutton Lewis, who grew up in the NT, follows a father and son on a wild goose chase filled with heart and humour. Another highlight is Farm Block A67, a striking film by Indigenous directors Simone Detourbet (writer and director from Darwin) and Jason Haji-Ali. Also featured is Jarda Bura, Gurri Bura, Jarda Ngarli, Gurri Ngarli (Senior Woman, Young Woman), a powerful digital artwork created on Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi country in the Pilbara by Big hART in collaboration with women from Roebourne. This fusion of film, photography, and audio explores intergenerational relationships between women, celebrating their kinship, connection to Country, and the strength and leadership passed across generations. Rounding out the selection is the compelling documentary Echoes of Dissent, starring David Nicholls, a Ngemba man from Brewarrina.
Come along & enjoy these unique stories from incredible First Nations filmmakers championing First Nations voices and this year’s NAIDOC theme ‘The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy’ & support the celebration of First Nations culture during NAIDOC Week.
