Overview

Explore Byron Bay offers special Aboriginal tours at Cape Byron, Broken Head and Bangalow. Their tours are guided by Delta Kay, an Arakwal Bundjalung woman who is passionate about sharing Aboriginal culture. Delta is well known and respected as an Arakwal elder in the Byron Shire. Her ancestors have lived in the area surrounding Byron Bay for thousands of years and Arakwal customs, knowledge, ceremonies and stories have been passed down to her for safe keeping.

Broken Head Tours

On this guided Aboriginal Broken Head tour, guests are taken on a moderate 1.6 km (1hr 30 mins) return walk while learning about significant places and hearing local history and traditional stories. There are opportunities to learn some Bundjalung language and about bush food, natural medicine, tools, weapons and artefacts.

During the tour, guests often see an abundance of wildlife, such as pods of dolphins, wallabies and the white-bellied sea eagle to name a few. From coastal rainforest to crashing waves and rocky coves, the views on this walk are truly special. We highly recommend that guests wear appropriate shoes and have a waterbottle, hat and sunscreen.

Meeting Place

This tour takes place at Broken Head (184 Beach Road, Broken Head NSW 2481). The meeting place is at the start of the ‘Three Sisters Walking Track’ which is next to Broken Head Holiday Park. Please be aware that you will need to pay for parking within Broken Head Nature Reserve and it can be busy, so it is important that you allow enough time to find a car park.
