The Victorian State Ballet company returns to Byron Theatre this September with the enchanting tale of The Snow Queen— and once again, local talent will share the stage.

In a special collaboration, dancers from Byron Youth Ballet have been invited to perform alongside the professional company, bringing a local sparkle to the classic Hans Christian Andersen story.

“Some of our dancers will join The Snow Queen’s entourage in the land of the princesses – a truly inspirational learning opportunity,” says Yvonne Hall, Artistic Director of Byron Youth Ballet. “It’s a chance for students to work with young adult role models, learn production etiquette from professionals, and experience the magic of performing on stage at this level.”

The partnership has been years in the making. “Some of our students first appeared with Victorian State Ballet when they were very young,” says Hall. “Now, four seasons later, they are dancing en pointe, which makes this performance even more exciting.”

Directed and choreographed by Michelle Sierra, The Snow Queen is celebrated for its stunning choreography, exquisite costumes, elegant dancers, and magical lighting design. The ballet captures the heart- warming journey of Gerda as she faces an icy foe in a story of courage, friendship, and love.

This will be the Victorian State Ballet’s fourth visit to the Byron Shire, where they’ve built a devoted local following. With its mix of professional artistry and local participation, this season promises to be the most memorable yet.

Perfect for all ages, The Snow Queen is a captivating experience filled with drama, beauty, and pure delight.
