The Byron Writers Festival is more than a weekend of conversations. It’s three days of ideas, stories, music, food and community in the heart of Byron Bay.
Running from 14-16 August 2026, the festival transforms the town into one of Australia’s great literary gatherings. With dozens of sessions each day, bestselling authors, emerging voices and thousands of passionate readers, a little planning will help you make the most of your visit.
Here are a few simple tips to help you enjoy every moment.
Arrive early
The festival comes to life from around 7:30am each morning, with cafés buzzing and the festival precinct filling quickly.
Getting there early gives you time to collect anything you need, grab a coffee, browse the bookshop and settle in before the day’s first sessions begin. With a packed program running across multiple venues, an early start means you’ll have the best chance to experience everything on your wish list.
Take advantage of the park-and-ride
Parking in Byron Bay can be limited during major events, so the easiest option is to leave your car at the Cavanbah Centre.
For just $10 all day, you can park and catch the regular shuttle service directly into the festival precinct. It’s simple, affordable and removes the stress of searching for parking in town.
Collect your festival wristband
Before heading into the festival venues, make sure you’ve exchanged your one-day or three-day pass for an official festival wristband.
You can collect your wristband from the Box Office at Railway Park Festival Hub or the Bay Street Stage Ticket Desk. Once it’s on, you’ll have easy access throughout the day.
Grab a festival program and map
The festival program is one of the most useful things you’ll pick up.
Inside you’ll find session times, venue locations and a detailed map of the festival precinct. Whether you’re moving between author conversations, panel discussions or special events, the program makes it easy to plan your day and navigate around town.
Meet your favourite authors
One of the highlights of Byron Writers Festival is the opportunity to meet the writers behind the books.
Book signings take place daily at two dedicated signing locations within the precinct, giving readers the chance to have books signed, meet their favourite authors and capture a memorable photo.
Don’t miss the Feature Events
Your festival pass opens the door to an incredible program, but there’s even more to experience.
The separately ticketed Feature Events include big conversations, poetry celebrations, live performances and special one-off events that round out each day. If there’s a particular author or event you’ve been hoping to see, it’s worth booking these tickets in advance.
Enjoy everything Byron Bay has to offer
One of the unique things about Byron Writers Festival is its location.
The festival sits right in the heart of Byron Bay, making it easy to step out between sessions and enjoy the town’s cafés, restaurants, bars, boutiques and beaches.
If you’re visiting from out of town, why not extend your stay? Spend a few extra days exploring the region, supporting local businesses and discovering everything that makes Byron Bay one of Australia’s favourite destinations.

Byron Writers Festival returns from 14-16 August 2026, bringing together some of Australia’s most celebrated writers alongside inspiring international guests.
